John Hancock #GivingTuesday Effort Sets Single-Day Boston Marathon Fundraising Record

Boston Marathon Runners Raise $1,232,763 in 24 Hours

BOSTON, MA (November 30, 2017) John Hancock’s third annual #GivingTuesday campaign set a new single-day Boston Marathon fundraising record. On #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, $1,232,763 was raised through 9,674 donations, surpassing last year’s total of $934,285 through 7,719 donations.

The 2017 figures represent a 32 percent increase in the total raised and a 25 percent increase in the number of donations made.  One hundred fifty-two non-profit organizations, all either John Hancock Non-Profit Partners or Official Boston Athletic Association (BAA) Charity Partners, received donations.  All donations were captured on CrowdRise, the online platform used for Boston Marathon fundraising.

“We are so pleased our #GivingTuesday campaign set a new record, far exceeding our expectations,” said Thomas Crohan, AVP & Counsel, Corporate Responsibility & Government Relations. “We see #GivingTuesday’s spirit of gratitude and teamwork as part of John Hancock’s 2018 Boston Marathon Theme: #Together Forward. For us, it’s a reminder that together we help our community, clients and colleagues achieve monumental goals.”

For its part, John Hancock will donate $2,620 to Michele Scavongelli for being the top Boston Marathon non-profit fundraiser on CrowdRise on #GivingTuesday.  She raised $26,465 for the Youth Advocacy Foundation.

In addition, John Hancock will donate $1,000 to the fundraising efforts of those who placed second through tenth in their fundraising efforts on #GivingTuesday:
