Testimonial: This is my first work term with Manulife, and I have really enjoyed working here. So far it has been a great learning experience for me through involvement in a number of projects. I’ve helped to create a pricing tool for our Disability Income products to automate Age 65 renewal quotes. I am involved in the re-pricing of products. I also enjoyed working with other co-op students on the case study project, which allowed us to get a better understanding of all the products that Manulife has to offer. I have been able to develop my skill set through learning new actuarial software, such as Axis. It has been a great learning experience and I would love to come back for my remaining work terms.

| Job Description: | Work on several projects benefiting Manulife such as developing and managing internal Sharepoint sites, integrating new technology into the company, and application testing. |
Testimonial: I began working at Manulife with the idea that I'd be doing a fairly repetitive task for most of my co-op term at the company. As soon as I was introduced to my work team, these notions were shattered. I was told immediately that a primary focus of my co-op was to develop skills in a variety of areas and I have found that to be true after working here a full term. Here at Manulife I have experienced freedom and responsibility that has led me to work on many interesting projects as well as work on tasks way beyond the original scope of my employment. This has been not only a very educational term, but also personally fulfilling as well.

Testimonial: I am happy to be part of a program that has allowed me develop all of the skills that are necessary to become a well-rounded actuary. We have been lucky to have a co-op committee that is also dedicated to making sure we have the opportunity to develop these skills, and our knowledge of not only the profession but the industry as well. A very important part of my term here has been the fact that I have been given challenging tasks, and I definitely feel that I have made a contribution to the company.

Going from just completing first year to entering my first work term here at Manulife, the highly knowledgeable and easily approachable actuarial staff throughout the company made the transition a very easy and enjoyable process. At Manulife, you are constantly surrounded by opportunities to learn new concepts and learn new skills, through events such as 'actuarial lunch-and-learns' to talking to the many experienced professionals around you. Manulife has an excellent program for Actuarial Co-op students as well. | Business Unit: | Manulife Bank |
| Job Title: | Software Developer |
| Job Description: | As part of the development team at Manulife Bank, I help design and develop web applications that improve the scalability and efficiency of the Bank. In addition to development, I also do research to explore potential avenues to improve current processes at the Bank. My job also entails interacting with Business/Business Analysts to work through business requirements. |
Testimonial: Manulife's commitment to its Co-op program is evident in the amount of effort that the coordinators put into making the program work. Students are invited to brainstorm and carry out their own group project during the work term. In addition, monthly IS Co-op Lunch & Learns provide students with the opportunity to learn more about Manulife and its business units. A conscious effort is also made to ensure that students are assigned interesting and mission-critical tasks on important projects - I never felt like I was doing menial work that would never be used. In the office, the people are friendly and the atmosphere is always light. Co-ops also get a taste of the Business-side of projects by attending meetings with Business and working with Business Analysts during the course of a project, which I found to be a big bonus. I would highly recommend Manulife to anyone looking for a challenging and rewarding Co-op term.

Testimonial: As a seasoned co-op student I’ve been exposed to a variety of managers, work environments, and teams. Manulife Financial has, by far, been my best experience. I have worked at the company for over 2 terms and I am certain that I will return for my final work term. My team is incredibly friendly, and I have participated in outside-of-work activities with my coworkers on several occasions. I have never felt the same sense of importance and responsibility that I feel at Manulife. At times, I forget that I am still a co-op student. To challenge myself, I asked my manager to allow me to tackle other technologies and tasks beyond the scope of my job description. My manager gladly awarded me this learning opportunity.
