Dominic D'Alessandro Named to the Order of Canada
Toronto -- Dominic D'Alessandro, President & CEO of Manulife Financial, has been named an Officer of the Order of Canada by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada. Mr. D'Alessandro, along with 108 other distinguished Canadians, received Canada's highest honour for lifetime achievement, merit or exceptional services. (Read more about the Order of Canada)
"I am absolutely thrilled to have been accorded this honour. Of all the recognition that I have been fortunate enough to receive during my career, the Order of Canada is what I am most proud of," says Mr. D'Alessandro. The motto of the Order of Canada is "Desiderantes meliorem patriam" meaning they desire a better country. Appointments are made on the recommendation of an advisory council, chaired by the Chief Justice of Canada. The Governor General is the chancellor and principal companion of the Order. Since its inception in 1967, more than 4,000 people have received the Order of Canada. The list includes Canadian luminaries such as Celine Dion, Maurice Richard, Terry Fox and David Suzuki.
