Manulife Supports the “Qile” Charity Cake Drive to Raise Funds for Elderly-Care Services

More Than 500 Staff and Insurance Advisors Volunteer for the Meaningful Cause

Hong Kong – Manulife staff, insurance and financial advisors are demonstrating their caring spirit by supporting the annual “Qile” Charity Cake Drive organized by the Haven of Hope Christian Service to raise funds for elderly-care services in Hong Kong. This year, the “Qile” Charity Cake Drive will be held on the coming Saturday and Sunday (November 22-23, 2003).

Manulife supports the event in two ways: by launching an internal company-wide cake sale between October to early November, and forming volunteer teams comprising more than 500 staff and advisors to sell cakes to the public at more than 55 Mass Transit Railway stations and shopping malls during the two-day drive.

“Community involvement is part of the corporate culture of Manulife,” said Edward Lau, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Hong Kong, Manulife (International) Limited. “For years, our staff and advisors have participated in a diversity of charitable activities with enthusiasm. Our support in the ‘Qile’ Charity Cake Drive last year has set a new record in funds raised for Haven of Hope Christian Service. This year, with the collective efforts of our people, we will continue to contribute to a more secure and pleasant living for senior people in Hong Kong.”

“More than 8,000 tins of ‘Qile’ Charity Cake are sold during our company-wide internal sale. For the coming public sale, we hope we can further build on last year’s success,” he added.

The “Qile” Charity Cake Drive (“Qile” means “Happy Elderly” in Chinese) is the Haven of Hope Christian Service’s annual initiative to raise funds for various services that benefit the elderly and the needy in Hong Kong. Each year, the event relies on more than 1,000 volunteers to help organize and drive the sale.
Manulife’s participation in the “Qile” Charity Cake Drive in Hong Kong is part of the Company’s ongoing Global Volunteer initiative that encourages employees to participate in meaningful causes to make a difference in their communities.
