Fiddler plays his music for children
Manulife sponsors production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in Hong Kong
Hong Kong – More than 30 children and their guardians from the small group homes of the Hong Kong Christian Service (HKCS) recently met with the members of the cast of a local production of Fiddler on the Roof after a performance at the City Hall Theatre. Presented by the Hong Kong Singers, Fiddler on the Roof is one of the world’s most popular musicals, featuring the lives of a family in long-ago Russia who strive to preserve traditions in a changing world.
The children, who were guests of Manulife Financial, the sponsor of the production, enjoyed the scenes and costumes of early 20th century Russia, while the story of love and family tradition struck a chord with them.
Manulife has a history of support and appreciation of the arts in Hong Kong. “We are pleased to be part of an event that helps to keep the cultural arts alive and flourishing in this great city,” said Victor Apps, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Asia, Manulife Financial.
“We are a client of Manulife’s Mandatory Provident Funds services, but our association with them goes far beyond that,” said Barry Wong, Head of Corporate Affairs & Community Relations Department of HKCS. “The children from our small group homes who attended the show thoroughly enjoyed being part of the audience for the musical, and they especially appreciated the folk costumes and the evergreen songs.”
