Manulife Centre holds free seminar on study and organization skills for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities
Hong Kong – The Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities will organize a free seminar for parents, teachers and members of the public on Saturday, March 22, 2003. The seminar will introduce effective study skills that can help low achieving students or those suffering from learning difficulties to overcome problems and become successful learners.
“Academic achievement is closely associated with the use of study skills. It is believed that knowing how to study effectively plays a more determining role in a student’s academic performance,” said Dr. Alice Cheng Lai, Person-in-charge of Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
“The lack of a successful learning experience may lead to subsequent problems such as emotional problems, anxiety, and low self-esteem, which may further aggravate the children’s learning problems,” said Dr. Lai. “By introducing useful study skills, we hope that participating parents and teachers are able to help their children learn successfully and happily.”
Conducted in Cantonese, the seminar will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Room FJ302, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Interested parties should contact the Centre staff on 2766 6313 for further details and registration. All seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
The Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities has been sponsored by the Manulife Charitable Foundation since 1999.
