Manulife awarded Top Fund Raiser title
in the Walks for Millions 2002/2003
Company raises a record HK$1 million to support the needy in the community
Hong Kong – Manulife (International) Limited has won both the “Challenge Cup - Overall Top Fund Raiser” and “Top Fund Raiser of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk” awards in the Walks for Millions 2002/2003 event organized earlier this year by The Community Chest of Hong Kong. The Company also won both awards in last year’s event.
This year, a new record was set by Manulife in terms of funds raised as well as number of people who participated in this major annual fund-raising event. More than 1,600 staff, insurance and financial advisors, as well as customers of Manulife took part in the “Hong Kong and Kowloon Walk” held on January 12, 2003 and raised more than HK$1 million. All funds raised from the Walk this year will be allocated to the Community Chest’s member social welfare agencies to provide services for the disabled.
“We are especially pleased to have achieved such exceptional results despite the challenging economic conditions,” said Mr. Edward Lau, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Hong Kong, Manulife (International) Limited. “Being a good corporate citizen is fundamental to being a world-class company. Manulife strongly believes in the philosophy of giving back to the community. I am proud that the concerted effort of our staff, insurance and financial advisors could help make a difference to those in need in the community.”
Participation in the Walk is a regular event in Manulife’s annual calendar and is organized by the Manulife Recreation Club, which was set up in 1975 to coordinate recreational and welfare activities as well as community services for Manulife’s staff, insurance and financial advisors.
In 2002, Manulife was awarded a “Caring Company” title by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in recognition of the Company’s ongoing efforts in community involvement.
