Manulife Centre Holds Free Seminar on Innovative Learning Skills to Support Children with Learning Difficulties

Hong Kong – The Manulife Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities will hold a free open seminar for parents, teachers and members of the public on Sunday, July 27, 2003. The seminar will provide participants an overview of some prevailing perspectives on learning disabilities and share with audience some evidenced-based strategies and practices to support children with learning difficulties.

“Many local children are suffering or being victimized under the current local education system as they have limitations in areas such as specific difficulties with spoken and written language, coordination, self control, memory or attention,” said Dr. Alice Cheng Lai at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

“They have to acquire and develop some innovative learning skills and to be taught in a specifically designed way that corresponds to their unique learning needs and patterns in order to triumph over their limitations and achieve quality learning in the local academic arena,” added Dr. Lai.

Conducted in Cantonese, the seminar will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2003 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Lecture Theatre M-001, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Kowloon. Interested parties should contact the Centre staff on 2766 6313 or email to hskai@inet.polyu.edu.hk for further details and registration. All seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
