Manulife Financial launches Manulife University Asia
A first-of-its-kind training facility for insurance management

Hong Kong - Manulife has announced the opening of Manulife University Asia – a dedicated in-house, region-wide management training facility. With the objective of being a leading-edge training development and educational facility, Manulife University will provide attendees with the management and business acumen required to excel in leadership positions across the Company’s Asian Division.

“The programs will emphasize the professional development of our local agency management in preparation for leadership roles within the seven territories in Asia where we currently have operations, as well as for future expansion opportunities in Asia,” said Victor Apps, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Asia, Manulife Financial. “We place significant importance on developing local staff in each country. In the long run, this will serve to reduce the need for expatriate expertise across the region.”

Located conveniently in Hong Kong, Manulife University enables the Company’s agency executives across the Asia region to meet and attend classes regularly and further develop their management skills. The University is equipped with state-of-the-art teaching capabilities and the courses offered are highly interactive, using home-grown materials, as well as those from industry sources, such as the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA). Manulife University also sources, develops and monitors agent and manager training programs and business systems, and works in conjunction with the territories training departments to deliver the programs.

The University’s comprehensive training programs are designed to meet Manulife’s corporate objectives while enhancing relationships amongst its agency forces in the region. The ultimate aim is to train a group of knowledgeable and productive agency executives in Asia who are familiar with the running of the insurance business, and are able to maximize profits while maintaining and improving Manulife’s brand and way of doing business.

“Asia offers growth potential for the insurance industry unlike any other region around the world,” said Marc Sterling, Senior Vice President, Regional Operations, Asia, Manulife Financial. “We plan to have 60 field managers graduate from the University each year, providing us with enormous potential from which to draw as we execute our growth and expansion strategy across Asia in the years to come.”

Only top performing field managers from Manulife are invited to attend the University’s training program. The knowledge and expertise that the selected managers gain from this first-rate training facility will surely help them excel in their leadership roles.
