Manulife donates $150,000 to Cancer Research
Funds donated to the Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s ‘Stride for a Cure’ event

Hong Kong – Manulife Charitable Foundation has donated $150,000 to the 2003 ‘Stride for a Cure’ event, which was held on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at the Tai Tam Country Park. Organized by the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, ‘Stride for a Cure’ aimed to raise funds for cancer research projects in Hong Kong including research into Nasopahryngeal Carcinoma, better known as ‘Cantonese Cancer’, and colorectal cancer.

Manulife’s corporate team joined nearly 2,500 community members including about 300 cancer survivors to put their best foot forward for cancer research.

“Manulife has been sponsoring the event since 1997, supporting studies that seek to develop treatments for cancers that are common in Hong Kong,” said Edward Lau, Chairman of the Manulife Charitable Foundation and Senior Vice President and General Manager, Hong Kong, Manulife (International) Limited. “Manulife’s involvement in this event demonstrates our commitment to being a Caring Company and to continuously supporting meaningful causes in our community.”

At the event’s kick-off ceremony, Sally Lo, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund, received a $150,000 donation cheque from Mr. Lau.

“We are delighted with the ongoing support we are receiving from Manulife, who has always been one of our major sponsors,” said Mrs. Lo. “We treasure not only their giving but their long-term involvement – which is very precious to those in need.”
