Manulife Japan completes purchase of 15 office buildings nationwide

Tokyo - Manulife Life Insurance Company (Head Office: Chofu-shi, Tokyo, President & CEO Trevor Matthews) announced today it has completed the purchase of 15 office buildings nationwide. This is the part of Manulife’s plan to diversify its investment in Japan, improve investment performance and enhance its brand recognition.

Since most of these buildings are relatively new, being built in the late 80s or early 90s and are located in 10 major cities throughout Japan including Tokyo, the company expects good returns from this investment. The total amount of the investment is approximately ¥28 billion.

“We are very glad to have completed this transaction for 15 office buildings nationwide. This provides us with an excellent opportunity to earn superior investment returns back for our policyholders and underpins our company’s strong determination for lasting success in the Japanese market,” said Mr. Trevor Matthews, President & CEO of Manulife Japan.

Manulife Japan plans to rename the buildings and install signs, not only for the 8 buildings in which Manulife Japan currently has sales offices, but also for the other 7 buildings, in order to further establish and strengthen the company’s brand recognition in each respective regional market.

Manulife Japan, a member company of the Manulife Financial Group headquartered in Canada, holds a top-class “AA+” credit rating from one of the world’s most prestigious credit rating agencies, Standard and Poor’s Co. (as of January 2003).
