Manulife Lends Helping Hand to Selangor Family Aid Association
Donated RM5,000 worth of essential items

Kuala Lumpur – Manulife Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad (Manulife Malaysia) donated RM5,000 worth of essential items to the Selangor Family Aid Association, a welfare home for the aged, physically and mentally challenged children, located in Ulu Yam, Selangor.

The items were presented by Mr Kevin McWhinney, Executive Vice President, Distribution, Manulife Malaysia to Mr. G.P. Raj, Chairman of Selangor Family Aid Association during a cheer visit recently.

“Manulife’s corporate giving goes beyond monetary contributions. Our underlying philosophy is that our giving has to be meaningful to the recipient organization and that it directly benefits the people that it cares for,” said Mr McWhinney.

Manulife Malaysia donated items that were specifically required by Selangor Family Aid Association. They included food staples that will ensure the Home’s residents continue to receive their three meals a day, household cleaning items to maintain a clean and hygienic environment and tins of paint to assist in the refurbishment work to upgrade housing facilities at the Home.

“We are very grateful to receive Manulife’s contribution. As a Home that does not receive government aid, we rely heavily on the continued contribution from corporations such as Manulife and other well-wishers to help us stretch our funds and maintain the Home. Currently, we have 87 residents and most of them need constant care,” said Mr Raj.

During the cheer visit, Manulife staff and agency members spent time chatting with the residents and later joined them for a lunch treat that was specially organized in conjunction with the visit.

“Manulife is very pleased to be able to help this Home in their noble work. This is one of the many ways that Manulife is giving back to the communities in which Manulife has a presence. And, it reinforces our commitment to building long-term relationships here in Malaysia,” added Mr. McWhinney.

Some of Manulife’s past contributions to non-profit organizations includes Alzhemier’s Diseases Foundation Malaysia, (Kuala Lumpur), Rumah Hope (Petaling Jaya), Miriam Home( Kluang), Rumah Sejathtera Jelapang (Ipoh), Rumah Sejahtera Permatang Tinggi (Butterworth), Sibu Benevolent Society (Sibu) and The Salvation Army Children’s Home (Kuching).
