Manulife New York Hosts First Annual Investment Symposium
-- Forbes Magazine Publisher Serves as Keynote Speaker --

Valhalla, NY - In its ongoing efforts to provide pensions industry professionals with education and development opportunities, Manulife New York held its first annual investment symposium for financial advisors, consultants, and Third Party Administrators (TPA’s) specializing in qualified retirement plan services on October 23rd at Rockefeller Plaza’s Rainbow Room. The theme of the symposium, which attracted more than 150 attendees, was “Rise Above the Turbulence.” Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes Magazine, served as keynote speaker for the event.

In his keynote address, Mr. Karlgaard discussed “How to survive the turbulent 2000s,” providing insight into effective strategies advisors and TPA’s can use to successfully position their businesses. Other speakers at the symposium included portfolio managers from AIM, Deutsche Asset Management, T. Rowe Price, and Salomon Brothers Asset Management. All four-asset management firms provided current market commentary relevant to the pensions industry. Additional speakers included Bob Ossey of Business Health, who spoke about making businesses relevant for the future, and David Wray, President of Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America, who shared his insight on pending legislation that could impact businesses.

“This symposium was designed to help financial advisors and TPA’s in our industry learn about opinions on current market conditions and the latest developments in legislation, all of which could significantly impact their businesses,” said Bill Hicks, a representative of Manulife New York. Based on the success of this first symposium, we are looking forward to making this an annual event, as it is a fitting complement to our continuous efforts to serve financial advisors and TPA’s in New York’s pensions market.”
