Manulife Vietnam sponsors the 39th International Mission of Operation Smile in Vung Tau City Vung Tau City – Manulife Vietnam is proudly donating US$10,000 for the 39th International Mission of Operation Smile, taking place in Le Loi Hospital, Vung Tau City from July 16 to 26, 2003. This mission provides free surgery for 200 Vietnamese children and young adults born with facial deformities. For three consecutive years, Manulife Vietnam has made a significant contribution to the funding of these important missions. The first donation of US$10,000 supported the Operation Smile mission in Can Tho Province in April 2001; the second donation of US$17,750 was made to Ho Chi Minh City’s mission in December, 2002. In addition to the financial support offered, a number of dedicated Manulife Vietnam staff and agents have joined these missions as volunteers to assist the teams with logistics work. “We are very proud of the contribution made by our employees to this extraordinary noble mission,” said David Matthews, General Manager, Manulife Vietnam. “Together with the highly specialized medical team, more than 25 staff and agents of Manulife Vietnam have given their time to make a difference to the children.” These 45-minute surgeries offer immediate and life-altering results, giving hope and social acceptance back to affected children and their families. “Manulife has made a long-term commitment to improving the quality of life for the local community, especially children, as evidenced by the number of charitable activities we are involved in,” said Mr. Matthews. “Our contribution today helps Operation Smile change young lives, one smile at a time.” About Operation Smile Operation Smile is a leading humanitarian and medical relief organization dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults worldwide.
