500 Manulife Vietnam employees and agents participate in the 7th annual Terry Fox Marathon of Hope Ho Chi Minh City – On November 23rd, 500 employees and agents of Manulife Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City will participate in a five kilometer run with the goal of raising US$2,500 for the seventh annual Terry Fox Run held in Saigon South, District 7. Co-organized by the Canadian Consulate General and the Canada–Vietnam Business Association, this annual event supports cancer research in Vietnam on behalf of the Terry Fox Foundation in Canada. “We are always delighted to be a companion with the Terry Fox Run,” said David Matthews, General Director of Manulife Vietnam. “As a Canadian-based company, Manulife is particularly proud of the impact the Terry Fox Foundation has made around the world in fighting cancer. More than 200 Manulife Vietnam members have enthusiastically joined the Terry Fox Run held in Ha Noi last September 14th, and the participation of our 500 employees and agents in the Terry Fox Run this Sunday in Ho Chi Minh City again symbolizes our contribution to the welfare of the community.” Terry Fox, a Canadian who suffered from bone cancer, losing his leg to the disease, is the inspiration for the Run. He was so overcome by the suffering of cancer patients that he took on the challenge of running across Canada in the Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. Terry ran 5,373 kilometers in 143 days before being stopped by the return of cancer. He died in 1981 at the age of 22. Today, the Terry Fox Run is held annually in 52 countries with more than one and a half million participants.
