Plan participants get enhanced fund information from Manulife

BOSTON – Manulife Financial is providing 401(k) plan participants with enhanced and redesigned fund sheets, in print and online, beginning in March 2002. The new fund sheets are available to all participants of group annuity contracts with The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.).

The revamped sheets more effectively present the quarterly information on underlying funds, such as top holdings, industry and sector classifications, portfolio statistics, and long-term performance compared to a benchmark. The new online fund sheets also include asset manager information and fund commentary.

The new look and enhanced information are the result of feedback from focus groups with financial consultants and pension participants. “The enhanced fund sheets make it easier for both novice and sophisticated participants to determine which investment options in their company’s retirement plans best suit their needs,” said Kendall Kay, Chief Strategy Officer, U.S. Group Pension, Manulife Financial. “This can help build participants’ confidence about achieving retirement goals. It will also help plan sponsors select and monitor the Funds by providing more comprehensive information,” he added.

“These enhancements to the retirement savings tools available online and in print reflect Manulife’s ongoing commitment to providing the kind of clear and useful communications that participants need,” said Kay. Recently, Manulife was awarded the 2002 DALBAR Communications Seal for excellence in meeting the needs of retirement plan participants, the “Best of Show” award from the Life Communicators Association (LCA) for superior 401(k) enrollment materials, and a "Top Rating" in communications materials and overall participant service from Plan Sponsor magazine. The 2002 DALBAR Communications Seal for excellence in meeting the needs of retirement plan participants; LCA award was in the “financial services products – 401(k), 403(b) and RRSP materials” class, topping 20 other entries; as cited in Plan Sponsor magazine (Nov. 2001) Plan Sponsor DC 2001 Survey.
