Manulife–Sinochem announces sponsorship of the second Shanghai Traditional Games

Shanghai– Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co., Ltd., the first foreign-invested JV life insurance corporation in China, today announces its sponsorship of the second Shanghai Traditional Games. The aim of the sponsorship is to support the cultural development of local youngsters and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The Shanghai Traditional Games is organized by Shanghai Citizenship Bureau and other municipal governmental departments. The sponsorship was celebrated recently with a grand opening ceremony held in Shanghai Children's Palace.

“The games are an ideal way to get local children interested in sports and to demonstrate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.” commented Mr. James Lin, President of Manulife Sinochem. “Enhancing people’s quality of life has been core to Manulife-Sinochem’s values since we first entered the market in 1996 and it is an honor for us to play a role in helping to build a healthy society through our support of this initiative.”

“Our sponsorship is an ideal opportunity to further engage with and serve the local community and we will be encouraging our staff to volunteer and provide coaching services.” Mr Lin continued.

Manulife-Sinochem is now operational in a total of 23 cities in China and has more than 11 years’ experience in the local market and is proud of the trust and support that it receives from its clients. As well as supporting a broad range of welfare activities, Manulife-Sinochem also focuses on cultivating families’ awareness of the importance of financial planning. In addition, it uses its sponsorship of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to share the Olympic spirit with the general public across the country.

Star athlete of the Chinese national Taekwondo team, and Olympic Taekwondo gold medalist, Luo Wei said: “As an Olympic sponsor, Manulife-Sinochem has given great support to Chinese athletes like me and has really helped to bring the Olympic spirit to people throughout China. Their sponsorship of the Shanghai Traditional Games is another example of their commitment to developing the country’s sports stars of the future and I congratulate them on the great work that they are doing in helping young people to get involved in sports.”
