Manulife Asset Management Thailand launches new equity fund

Bangkok - Manulife Asset Management Thailand (MAMT) has launched its newManulife Strength Equity Fund(MS-EQ VALUE), an open-ended equity fund invested in Thai stocks listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET).

The new fund, which is available to both institutional and retail investors, is holding its Initial Public Offering from July 23 to August 2, 2007. It will be managed by Mr. Panukorn Chantaraprapab, Equity Director, MAMT and Mr. Sukkawat Prasurtying, Chief Investment Officer, MAMT.

Mr. Alan Kam, Chief Executive Officer of MAMT said: “The Manulife Strength Equity fund will seek out stocks with strong fundamentals that offer a high dividend yield and low beta. It will invest in a well-diversified portfolio of stocks and aims to offer investors solid, consistent returns with lower volatility as well as the opportunity to benefit from MAMT’s active management and investment expertise.”

“MAMT also plans to launch other funds including a fixed income fund, a short-term fixed income fund, and two retirement mutual funds. The retirement mutual funds are aimed at the investors who want to save for their retirement and enjoy tax privileges in accordance with the regulation of the Revenue Department,” added Mr. Kam.

The new fund is the fourth fund to be launched since MAMT’s inception in May 2007. The fund management company, which currently has THB 2,994.95 million in assets under management (as at July 20, 2007), also offers the Manulife Strength China Value FIF (MS-CHINA VALUE), Manulife Strength Core Equity (MS-CORE EQ) and Manulife Strength Core LTF (MS-CORE LTF) funds.

Manulife Strength China Value FIF Fund
This fund is an open-ended feeder fund emphasizing investment in foreign equity fund units, mainly invested in Manulife China Value Fund (Class A) for which past performance is set out below.

Manulife Strength Core Equity and Manulife Strength Core LTF Funds
Manulife Strength Core Equity (MS-CORE EQ) and Manulife Strength Core LTF (MS-CORE LTF) are open-ended funds that invest mainly in the SET50 stocks. Using an active management approach, the fund managers seek to identify undervalued stocks with superior earning growth potential.

Mr Sukkawat Prasurtying – Chief Investment Officer, MAMT
Mr. Sukkawat has more than 15 years of experience in the financial industry where he has held numerous senior positions, including as a fund manager at Tisco Asset Management, a senior fund manager at JF Thanakom Securities (subsequently “JP Morgan Securities”) and Asset Plus Securities. Mr. Sukkawat was one of the pioneering team to set up the Private Fund’s division at Asset Plus Securities. After merging with ABN Asia Securities, Asia Plus Securities become a wholly owned shareholder of Asset Plus Fund Management Co., Ltd. where Sukkawat played a key role in leading the team of five fixed income and equity fund managers as a Senior Fund Manager and the Assistant Managing Director. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Mr. Panukorn Chantaraprapab, Equity Director, MAMT
Mr. Panukorn is the equity fund manager for Manulife Asset Management Thailand responsible for all equity portfolios. He has more than six years of investment management experience. Previously, Panukorn was a fund manager at One Asset Management, managing both mutual funds and private institutional funds. Prior to that, he was a corporate dealer at Kasikorn Bank and an equity analyst at Securities One.
