Torrential rains no deterrent to Manulife blood drive:Some 550 donors turn up in a single day

Hong Kong -On June 2, 2006, Manulife (International) Limited (MIL) again organized a corporate blood drive to support the Hong Kong Red Cross Transfusion Service’s call for blood donations. “Donation clinics” were set up at Manulife office buildings at three locations —Manulife Tower in North Point, Manulife Plaza in Causeway Bay and Manulife Provident Funds Place in Jordan. A regular event in Manulife’s annual calendar, the blood drive attracted around 550 staff, insurance/financial advisors and customers to take part in giving blood in a single day.

“Manulife has been supporting the corporate blood drive program for more than 25 years,” said Michael Huddart, Executive Vice President and General Manager for Hong Kong, MIL. “It gives me great pleasure to see that so many of our staff and advisors showed up again this year to give blood despite the torrential rains. Their undying passion to help others in need is a strong testament to Manulife’s caring and loving spirit, which is also the foundation of our business.”

Around 8,000 donors from Manulife have donated blood to the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service since 1979. Many of these donors were regular supporters of the blood drive, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to making a positive difference in the community.

Dr. Lee Cheuk Kwong, Senior Medical Officer of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service said, “Manulife has had a long history of backing our corporate blood donation program, and we are grateful for their continued support. Their active involvement in giving blood helps build a stronger community and sets a fine example for others to follow.”

The blood-donation drive is organized by Manulife Recreation Club, which was set up in 1975 to coordinate recreational and welfare activities as well as community services for the company’s staff and insurance and financial advisors.
