Manulife Announces New Senior Appointments

Hong Kong - Manulife (International) Limited (MIL) has announced the appointment of two new senior executives in Hong Kong.

Emil Lee, who has been with the insurer for a decade, has been made Vice President and Chief Agency Officer, responsible for overseeing Manulife’s agency operation in Hong Kong. He will also be a key member of Manulife Hong Kong’s senior-management team.

Mr. Lee worked for a number of leading insurance, re-insurance and consulting companies in Canada and the United States before joining Manulife’s Asia Regional Office in 1999, rising to become Deputy General Manager of the company’s mainland China business, Manulife-Sinochem Life Insurance Co. (MSL).

During his six years with MSL, Mr. Lee oversaw MSL’s operation in Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces, Employee Benefits, Branch Expansion, Marketing and Branding, and took charge of MSL’s start-up in Fujian province. In addition, he also served as interim General Manager of Manulife’s Taiwan operation in 2008.

Mr. Lee’s appointment will be effective in mid-August 2009.

Meanwhile, Doris Chan was appointed Head of Sales and Marketing, Employee Benefits, reporting directly to Manulife’s head and Vice President of Employee Benefits, Alan Merten.

Ms Chan will be responsible for Agency Channel Management, Marketing and Strategic Development, Independent Distribution and Product Management for Manulife’s Employee Benefits business in Hong Kong.

Having worked in top sales and marketing positions for leading global life and general insurance and property and casualty companies in Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China, Ms Chan brings to Manulife strong business-development and sales expertise. Her more than 20 years of specialty experience in the area will help Manulife leverage its large customer base and maximize business opportunities arisen from the implementation of Members Choice in the market.

Ms. Chan is a graduate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where she gained a Bachelor of Social Science degree, and she also has a diploma from the Institute of Direct Marketing in the UK.
