MFC Global Investment Management announces the appointment of Yili Liu as Head of Equities at Manulife Asset Management Taiwan

Manulife Asset Management Taiwan has appointed Yili Liu as Head of Equities. In this role, Ms Liu will be based in Taipei, overseeing a team of 5 equity portfolio professionals with a combined total of NTD 2.18B AUM (as at July 31, 2009).

Ms Liu reports to Matthew Lee, Head of Greater China Equities, in Hong Kong, feeding into MFC Global Investment Management’s Greater China investment strategy. She will also report to Andrew Wang, Chief Investment Officer of Manulife Asset Management Taiwan and is responsible for the territory’s equity portfolios.

Ms. Liu joins Manulife Asset Management Taiwan, an MFC Global Investment Management company, with ten years of experience in the finance industry covering Taiwan and in particular, the territory’s technology sector. Prior to her new role, she oversaw technology sector research and fund management for Fidelity Investments in Hong Kong. Before joining Fidelity, Ms. Liu was an investment manager at a venture capital fund based in Taiwan. In her new role, she will also be Regional Head of Technology Research for MFC Global Investment Management (Asia).

Announcing her appointment, Andrew Wang, Chief Investment Officer of Manulife Asset Management Taiwan said: “Yili brings a unique understanding of capital allocation decisions in emerging markets as well as being widely recognized for her expertise in the Technology Sector. Her knowledge and experience will be a valuable addition to the existing team in Taiwan.”

Tahnoon Pasha, Head of Investments, Equities at MFC Global Investment Management (Asia) added: “We are delighted to welcome Yili to the Taiwan equities desk. She comes with a strong track record of consistent outperformance, demonstrating good results in both strong and weak equity markets. Yili’s appointment underpins our conviction in the investment opportunities that exist in Taiwanese equities and she will feed important local market insight into our global Greater China investment strategies.”

Ms Liu’s appointment is another in a series of important hires that MFC Global Investment Management has made in 2009 as it continues to expand into the institutional market in Asia. The company announced the hiring of Morten Frederiksen and Colin Ng to its Hong Kong-based Asia Pacific equities desk earlier in the year as well as significant hires in its local institutional sales teams and fund management teams around the Asia region.
