On October 31, 2009, Manulife-Sinochem launched a “Fortune Philosophy Forum” at Fudan University to examine the changing roles and responsibilities of China’s emerging and growing middle class, and its relationship with wealth, philosophy and spiritual development. Around 500 Manulife-Sinochem VIP customers joined the forum, which combined the expertise of Fudan University and the resources of Manulife-Sinochem for a thought-provoking event.
With the rapid development of the economy in recent years and its effect on society, China’s middle class is experiencing many new social roles and responsibilities. This has raised questions about how to define China's middle class, what wealth means to them and how they can balance wealth and the fulfillment of a spiritual life. The forum discussed the importance of understanding the relationship the new middle class will have with wealth and spirituality in the future.
In his speech, Mr. Wang Defeng, philosophy professor at Fudan University and a famous humanities scholar, noted that China’s middle class is taking on more social responsibility than ever before and is learning to understand the concepts of value and justice.
“Manulife-Sinochem continually affirms its commitment to provide the ultimate service to our customers, and by participating in forum’s such as these, we hope to better help our customers find a happy balance between growing their wealth and finding spirituality,” said Mr. James Lin, President of Manulife-Sinochem.
As the first joint venture life insurance company in China, Manulife-Sinochem is committed to providing quality customer service. With the success of the first event, Manulife-Sinochem is planning to launch a series of customer programs similar to the “Fortune Philosophy Forum” to focus customer spirituality.
