Ho Chi Minh City - Manulife Vietnam, one of the leading life insurance companies in Vietnam, granted university scholarships worth VND 110 million to 11 outstanding students at a ceremony today at Manulife Plaza headquarters. Manulife Vietnam is honored to welcome Mr. Audri Mukhopadhyay, Consul General of Canada, to attend the ceremony. The university scholarship program, called “Bringing Dreams to Life”, is part of Manulife‘s corporate donation strategy to improve the quality of education for young, future leaders of the country.
The scholarship fund worth VND 1.2 billion was officially launched in June 2009 and is designed to reward outstanding Vietnamese students, who are immediate children of its current employees, agents, collectors and in-force policyholders, for their high school performance and top university entrance examination scores. It will help these young students with living expenses when they attend university in Vietnam. The company received 54 applications for the 11 scholarships, worth VND 10 million each.
In addition to its reputation as the premier life insurance company in Vietnam, Manulife has an ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for the communities in which it does business across the country. For the past ten years, Manulife has contributed more than VND 8 billion to various education and charitable activities.
“To celebrate our 10th anniversary in Vietnam together with our customers, staff and agents, we are proud to offer this education sponsorship program to our key stakeholders,” said David Wong, CEO and General Director of Manulife Vietnam. “As part of our corporate culture, we want to be an active corporate citizen and to concentrate on important emerging areas where we can make a difference. We are proud to have participated in various education initiatives over the past ten years, as we believe education is the foundation of a bright future. The Bringing Dreams to Life university scholarship fund program demonstrates our commitment and continued support to Vietnam’s education development.”
Added Dong Dao, Assistant Vice President of Manulife Vietnam, and Director of the University Scholarship Fund: “We are pleased to offer the scholarships to these top 10 scholars. Their accomplishment of entering university with high distinction has earned our confidence that they can create a better future for themselves and their community.
