Waterloo - Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie, and Lorie Kane have joined the field for the inaugural Manulife Financial LPGA Classic at Grey Silo Golf Course, June 20-24.
In her eighth year on the LPGA Tour, Paula Creamer has earned nine victories including one major championship at the U.S. Women’s Open in 2010. Creamer has been ranked as high as number two in the Women’s Golf Rankings and currently sits at number ten. Creamer is the fastest player in LPGA history to cross the $3, $4, and $5 million marks in career earnings.
Michelle Wie made an early impact in the professional golf world, setting and still holding the record as the youngest player to make the cut in an LPGA event (13 years, 5 months, 17 days). By 2006, Wie had climbed to the third ranked female golfer in the world. Wie joined the LPGA Tour in 2009 and has since won two titles and been a two-time member of the U.S. Solheim Cup team.
Charlottetown, PEI native Lorie Kane began her career on the LPGA tour in 1996, and was named the LPGA Rookie of the Year. During her time as a professional, Kane has claimed 4 LPGA titles and ranks 18th in all-time career earnings. She was presented with the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest honor, in 2006.
While Creamer, Wie, and Kane are scheduled to play in the tournament; the final field is not yet set. “It’s too early in the year to know exactly who is coming to the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic,” says Tournament Director Richard Kuypers. “But what I can tell you is that we’re expecting the vast majority of the best players in the world to be in Waterloo in June; and today’s announcement is a great start.”
