Manulife Japan Commences Sales of Foreign Currency-Denominated Individual Fixed Annuity “Lifetime Currency” through the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ

Manulife Life Insurance Company (Manulife Japan; President & CEO: Craig Bromley), will commence sales of “Lifetime Currency”, a foreign currency-denominated individual fixed annuity product, on August 6, 2012, through the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Limited (CEO: Nobuyuki Hirano).

Lifetime Currency is an individual fixed annuity insurance product in which the policy value is invested in the U.S. dollar or the Australian dollar. The product enables customers to receive an annuity in the selected foreign currency over the course of their lifetime.

Product Features of Lifetime Currency
  1. The first annuity payout may be made as soon as two months after the policy issue date, so customers may make use of the annuity soon after policy issue.
  2. The total annuity amount is guaranteed to be at least 130% of the annuity capital (in the selected currency). In this way, the product satisfies the needs of customers who wish to receive an annuity while building up annuity capital.
  3. In the event the insured passes away during the annuity payout period, the annuity will continue to be paid to the designated beneficiary until the time when the total amount of paid-out annuity reaches the level equivalent to the guaranteed amount. In this way, the product also satisfies the needs of customers who wish to bequeath necessary funds to family members.
  4. Customers may select the policy currency (either U.S. dollar or Australian dollar) and the deferral period (either 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 years) at the time of policy issue. The policy value will be invested at the interest crediting rate, which is set on the date of policy issue.
  5. Customers may choose the currency in which the premium is paid from one of the following currencies: U.S. dollar, Australian dollar, New Zealand dollar, or Euro.

Manulife Japan, as a strong, reliable, trustworthy, and forward-thinking company, is committed to providing the best solutions to meet individual customer needs. Going forward, Manulife Japan will continue to provide innovative products and quality service, with the aim of serving real customer needs by leveraging the expertise and experience of Manulife Financial group companies both in Japan and worldwide.

Explanation of Terms
Interest Crediting Rate:   This rate is used to calculate the policy value and market value adjustment. In principle, the interest crediting rate will be updated twice a month (the 1st and 16th of each month) based on the benchmark interest rate set by Manulife Japan. The interest crediting rate set on the policy issue date will be applicable to the policy throughout its deferral period and annuity payout period (the interest crediting rate set on the policy issue date will remain unchanged throughout the life of the policy). The interest crediting rate will vary depending on the currency selected and other conditions.
