Longevity Institute

Driving action to help people live longer, healthier, and more financially secure lives

Longevity is not just about adding years—it’s about making those years feel vibrant, supported, and full of possibility, good health, and financial security.

Manulife is investing $350 million by 2030 through its Longevity Institute: a global platform for research, thought leadership, innovation, advocacy, and community partnerships.

Convening research and thought leadership globally to enhance insights on the implications of longevity for people across the world.

Manulife John Hancock Financial Resilience and Longevity Global Report

With people living longer and facing potentially decades in retirement, taking action during working years is more important than ever. Our annual global research underscores the importance of saving and investing as longevity demands a new approach to planning. With this critical insight, our report outlines tailored steps for each generation and highlights how retirement plan providers, sponsors, and advisors can support better financial outcomes across people’s lifespans.

Longevity Preparedness Index

In collaboration with the MIT AgeLab, John Hancock is proud to share the first-of-its-kind Longevity Preparedness Index (LPI) that measures the readiness of U.S. adults for living longer, taking an in-depth look across eight domains: social connection, finance, daily activities, care, home, community, health, and life transitions.

National Institute on Ageing (NIA)

Manulife is the presenting sponsor powering the NIA Ageing in Canada Survey, one of Canada’s largest ongoing research initiatives focused on the perspectives and experiences of Canadians aged 50+. Through this partnership with the National Institute on Ageing at Toronto Metropolitan University, Manulife helps uncover key insights into health, financial security, and social well-being to inform better support for older Canadians.

Manulife Asia Care Survey

Designed to explore how people across Asia are redefining longevity — prioritizing quality of life over simply living longer. This survey highlights the growing importance of health and financial independence, emphasizing well-being across physical, mental, social, and financial dimensions. It also identifies gaps between aspirations and actions, offering insights to help people lead more balanced, fulfilling lives.

Milken Institute

Manulife and the Milken Institute have partnered to advance thought leadership and research on some of the most critical issues shaping longevity and the future of health. The Feeding Change Research Project analyzes the current food systems landscape and identifies strategies to support its transformation. The Future of Aging Research Project focuses on actionable solutions to advance connected care in the home for older adults and caregivers.

News and research

"Around the world, people are living longer, but not necessarily healthier. At the same time, longer lifespans pose challenges for individuals to achieve long-term financial readiness."
