Manulife Financial Corporation is a leading international financial services group that helps people make their decisions easier and lives better. With our global headquarters in Toronto, Canada, we operate as Manulife across our offices in Canada, Asia, and Europe, and primarily as John Hancock in the United States. We provide financial advice, insurance, and wealth and asset management solutions for individuals, groups and institutions. At the end of 2019, we had more than 35,000 employees, over 98,000 agents, and thousands of distribution partners, serving almost 30 million customers. As of September 30, 2020, we had $1.3 trillion (US$943 billion) in assets under management and administration, and in the previous 12 months we made $31.2 billion in payments to our customers. Our principal operations are in Asia, Canada and the United States where we have served customers for more than 155 years. We trade as 'MFC' on the Toronto, New York, and the Philippine stock exchanges and under '945' in Hong Kong.

Manulife Named One of the World’s Best Employers 2020

Manulife was recognized as one of the World’s Best Employers 2020 by Forbes in its annual list of 750 companies. The list is based on a survey of 160,000 full-time and part-time workers from 58 countries working for businesses with operations in multiple nations or regions. Respondents were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family.

Manulife won Gold in the insurance company category at the Reader’s Digest Trusted Brand Awards Hong Kong for the 17th consecutive year and the ninth straight Gold in the provident fund category. Being named a trusted brand repeatedly is a great compliment to the Company’s dedication and tireless effort to understand customers’ needs and to provide them with tailor-made solutions.

The Fund Compare tool on JHInvestments.com was awarded “Best Financial Services Interactive Application” by the Internet Advertising Competition (IAC), run by the Web Marketing Association. Since John Hancock Investment Management launched the tool in 2018, advisors have run over 25,000 fund comparisons.

Manulife and John Hancock Won Five Hermes Creative Awards 

Manulife Bank won Platinum for the All-In-Banking Mobile App idea and design in the category of Electronic Media, Mobile App. John Hancock’s Signature Series as well won Platinum, and John Hancock Aspire won Gold under the Strategic Programs category, with Signature Series winning for Special Event and Aspire for Product Launch. Manulife’s Marketing Affinity team won two Gold awards in the categories of Integrated Marketing Campaign and Association for the campaigns Look Out (Costco) and Block the Domino Effect (Alumni Term Life Insurance.) The Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition that honours the messengers and creators of the information revolution.

We’re the first Canadian life insurance company to reach that milestone.

We go public

We start trading on the TSX, NYSE, SEHK and PSE – at $2.5Bm it’s the largest IPO in Canada’s history. 

 

Japan and Vietnam

Manulife is the first Canadian insurer to launch a joint venture in Japan, and the first foreign-owned insurance company to do business in Vietnam.

Joining forces in Shanghai

Manulife-Sinochem is China’s first joint venture life insurance company.

Manulife Bank launches

We’re the first Canadian insurance company to open a bank.

First in China

We are the first Canadian life insurance company to open an office in China (Beijing).

Indonesia

A joint venture with Dharmala Group and the International Finance Corporation forms P.T. Asuransi Jiwi Dharmala Manulife.
