What is Group Protect?

Group Protect is a group insurance for small business owners designed to provide essential coverage for employees. This plan offers comprehensive employee life insurance and benefits such as accidental death, total disability, and hospital income. 

It offers affordable coverage for businesses, helping protect employees from financial uncertainty due to illness or accidents. This plan provides a simple and cost-effective solution to safeguard your team’s well-being.

 

Plan key benefits and features

  • Guaranteed financial assistance

    The family of the insured member will receive a guaranteed cash benefit to help ease financial difficulties caused by the unexpected demise of the breadwinner.

  • Comprehensive accident protection

    The insured member will receive cash assistance equal to the insurance coverage or equal to the schedule of benefits in case of disability or loss of identified body parts due to an accident.

  • Total and permanent disability benefit

    Your employee will be paid a lump sum amount equivalent to the insurance coverage if he/she becomes totally and permanently disabled for six (6) consecutive months, and is unable to work or will be unable to work for life due to disability.

What does Group Protect cover?

Guaranteed financial assistance Provides a lump-sum payout to beneficiaries in the event of the employee’s death.
Comprehensive accident protection Covers employees with benefits in case of accidental death or disability.
Total and permanent disability benefit Pays a lump sum if the employee becomes permanently disabled and unable to work.

Optional benefits

  • Daily hospital income benefit

    If an insured member is confined in a hospital due to injury or illness, he/she will receive an amount for each day of confinement, up to a maximum of 31 days.

  • Accidental medical reimbursement benefit

    The insured member may reimburse medical expenses from treatments received due to injuries caused by an accident that occurs thirty days after the date of the accident and within the amount of the benefit.

  • Cancer benefit

    If your employee is diagnosed with cancer, occurring after 90 days from the effective date of the plan, Manulife will pay the covered amount to your employee to help with the costs associated with treatment.

  • Eligibility age: 18-64 years

  • Groups of 5 to 100 employees

How does the claim process work?

Filing a claim for Group Protect is simple and efficient. To start, visit the Manulife claims page for detailed instructions and to submit your claim online.

 

Required documents:

  • Claimant’s statement specific to the type of claim (e.g., death or disability).

  • Valid Government-Issued ID of the claimant.

  • For death claims: Certified death certificate and proof of the loan balance or policyholder details.

  • For disability claims: Medical records and a physician’s statement confirming total disability.

  • Additional documents may be required depending on the type of claim and policy. 

Timeline:

Once all required documents are submitted, your claim will typically be processed within 7 working days.
