Traveling soon? Remember these 5 things before heading out.

After being secluded in our homes for the past two years due to the pandemic, we now wake up to happier, relatively safer days where we can finally be “free” again!

Whether it’s to make up for lost time or to escape the sweltering heat of the city, many of us are hitting the road to find a respite in the mountains or by the beach, or flying to new, exotic destinations to fulfill our wanderlust.

Regardless, it’s important to keep in mind that we stay safe and protected, never letting our guard down of the still, very real threat of COVID-19.

Here we share some of the dos and don’ts of traveling, allowing you to enjoy every moment of your adventure while staying protected!

1. Do your research

Research and plan your itinerary, and double-check the safety protocols, health clearances, and requirements of your chosen destination. This may differ per country, region, and city, so it’s best to call up the hotels and resorts beforehand to make sure. Certain accommodations may require presenting negative COVID-19 test results and updated vaccination cards, and undergoing a few days of quarantine.

2. Bring the essentials

Even if after doing your research and finding that test results and vaccination cards are not required, consider still bringing these with you for your travel and vacation experience to be smooth and hassle-free. Bring all necessary documents such as passports, IDs, test results, health and travel insurances of the family/ members, and such in a waterproof envelope—both original and copies.

3. Prep sanitizing kits

Prep each family member with their sanitizing kit, which includes alcohol, tissue, wet wipes, masks, and the like. Keep the kits in your kids’ respective backpacks, so that it’s always on hand. It’s also a good idea to have a chat with your younger children about traveling, especially if this is the first time that they’ll be going on a trip since the pandemic. Go over the basic considerations of practicing physical distancing and discuss that they may be required to wear their masks for the duration of the trip.

4. Wear sunscreen and stay hydrated

To ensure that everyone has fun under the sun, always have the following with you (per member of the traveling group): sunscreen (sun protection is always a must!), a water bottle for hydration, and medication for motion sickness. Have a few pieces of gum or candy on hand for the little ones.

5. Make sure you and your loved ones are financially covered

Finally, make sure to have your health and life insurance up to date to keep your worries at bay. If you know that you and your family are fully protected, you can dive into the moment and completely enjoy your well-deserved vacation!
