Toronto – Karl Pippenger is a dedicated and passionate figure in the world of cranberry farming. As the Area Manager for Manulife's cranberry property in Phillips, Wisconsin, Karl brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted love for his work.

Karl's journey into the cranberry industry began in 1993 when he took up a summer job after his first year of college. What started as an entry-level laborer position quickly turned into a lifelong passion. By 1996, Karl had committed to cranberry farming full-time, drawn by the variety of tasks and the opportunity to work closely with the land. His favorite part of the job? Operating the tractors that play a crucial role in the harvest process.

Karl's approach to cranberry farming is deeply intertwined with sustainability. As he puts it, "I really love it. We are very passionate about what we do. We do it in an environmentally sustainable way that matters to us. Our families grow up here. Cranberry growing goes hand in hand with Manulife’s Nature Positive Agenda – by ensuring that these wetlands that support the cranberry operation stay the way they are for future generations."

The wetlands surrounding the cranberry operation are teeming with wildlife, and preserving these natural habitats is paramount. The cranberry vines on the property, some of which have thrived for more than a century, are a testament to the careful stewardship practiced here.

Karl’s story is not just about growing cranberries; it's about nurturing an ecosystem and fostering a legacy of sustainability. Through his leadership, Manulife's cranberry operations serve as a model for environmental stewardship and dedication to future generations.
